Why Reading to Children is So Important

There are obvious benefits to reading to your child such as the bond you strengthen by just sitting and interacting together.

Research has shown that reading aloud to your child improves language skills when children start school and overall literacy competency at Grade 3 is known to be associated with high school graduation and career success.

So reading aloud to your child has many benefits, now and for the future.

That's a great reason to start reading aloud to your infant, toddler or child today.

Encourage your child to participate by pointing to objects in the pictures. You can teach your child about colours and shapes and also let your child's imagination take over and tell you what other story the pictures may tell.

The stories can be as simple as your child needs them to be. When you see your child getting bored, try and different style of story. The options are endless as are the benefits.
